THE STORY
BEHIND GDI

People may see the result, but God knows the full story.

A founder story grounded in faith, testimony, gratitude, rebuilding — and giving God the credit.

01

Why does God Did It exist?

God Did It exists because I know what it feels like to have people see where you are without knowing everything it took for you to get there.

My life has had a lot of different chapters. I have built a career, served in ministry, raised my daughters, led organizations, started businesses, moved to a new state, experienced major changes in my personal life, and had seasons where I had to figure out what starting over looked like.

Through all of it, I have learned that you can work hard, be educated, have experience, make plans, and still reach moments where you know your own ability was not enough.

There are things I have made it through that I can only look back on and say, “God did it.”

That is why this brand exists. It is for people who have their own version of that story — the things other people may never completely understand, but you know what God brought you through.

The heart of God Did It is simple: people may see the result, but God knows the full story.

02

Where did the phrase “God Did It” come from?

For me, “God Did It” is not a catchy saying. It is something I genuinely believe about my life.

There have been times when I knew exactly what I wanted my life to look like, and then life went in another direction. There have been doors that closed, relationships that changed, plans that did not work out, and seasons when I had to rebuild.

But there have also been doors I never could have opened myself, opportunities I did not see coming, people God placed in my path, and moments where things came together in ways I could not take credit for.

I still had to work. I still had to show up. I still had to make decisions. I still had to keep going.

But when I look at the whole story, I know work was not the whole story.

That is where God Did It comes from: I know I did not get here by myself.

03

Why did James create the company?

I created God Did It because I wanted to build something that was connected to my faith but still felt like me.

I did not want to create another Christian T-shirt company that simply puts Bible verses on shirts. I wanted to create something around testimony.

I have spent much of my life serving people — through ministry, nonprofit leadership, education, mentoring, community work, and the different things I have built. Storytelling has always been part of that. God Did It gives me another way to do it.

The clothing is where the idea begins, but I see the vision becoming much bigger than clothing. I want people to wear the message, tell their stories, hear other people’s testimonies through the podcast, connect through events and social media, and become part of a community built around faith and gratitude.

The clothing is the physical expression. The testimony is the heart of the brand.

What conviction sits behind the brand?

My personal conviction is that I never want to become so focused on what I accomplish that I forget Who carried me through the process.

I am ambitious. I build things. I work hard. I have goals. I believe in education, leadership, preparation, discipline, and doing the work. But I also know there have been seasons of my life where the résumé, degrees, titles, plans, and experience could not solve what I was facing.

Those seasons changed me. They taught me how to keep going without having every answer. They taught me how to rebuild. They taught me that sometimes faith is not about knowing exactly what God is doing — sometimes it is simply trusting Him while you are still in the middle of it.

So when I say “God Did It,” I am not saying life has always been easy or that being a Christian means everything works out exactly the way you want.

I am saying that when I look at where I started, what I have lived through, what I have lost, what I have rebuilt, and where I am still going, I know God has been present through all of it.

And I never want to forget that.

Why clothing?

I chose clothing because everybody gets dressed.

You may never walk into a church. You may never listen to a sermon. You may never read a long post about somebody’s testimony. But you might see somebody wearing a shirt that says GOD DID IT.

And you might ask them what it means. That question can open the door to a real conversation.

Maybe they tell you how God carried them through a divorce.
Maybe it was losing everything and starting over.
Maybe it was getting accepted into school.
Maybe it was becoming a parent.
Maybe it was getting the job.
Maybe it was surviving a difficult season.
Maybe their breakthrough has not happened yet, and the shirt is reminding them to keep believing.

That is why I like the idea of clothing being the beginning of the story — not the entire story.

Somebody sees the shirt. They ask the question. And then the testimony begins.

GOD DID IT.
